Hi, All, I have a 2013 Mondeo Zetec Business EDN TDCI Diesel its done 80,000 miles normally runs like a dream but over the past few weeks I have had intermittent starting problems when cold I have to crank it for ages before it starts when it starts it cuts out at low speed until it warms up, just like starting an old petrol engine without choke but other times when cold it starts first time.

Posted May 22, 2009. The tdci mondeos have this exact problem wich ford are aware of. Not herd of such problems on the focus though. The solution on the mondeos is to fit a new crank (a think) pulley and tensioner. Also a modified EGR Valve can cause excessive knocking and black smoke from the exhaust.
Ford Model: Focus 2.0 TDCi Titanium Ford Year: Really hoping this solves the problem! They are normally only used on a cold start, at least on my 1.8 engine.
The white smoke will be unburnt diesel which could be down to faulty glow plugs but if it wasn't doing this before I'd be more likely to suspect that some part of the fuel system has a tiny leak and is allowing a small amount of air in. It means Engine Systems fault on a Mk2 Focus. It can be caused by a breakdown in the CANbus system. Just like Damian says, there will be codes, probably U codes, that can be read by a good scanner like Forscan. 3. Name: Jim. Ford Model: S max. Ford Year: 2006. UK/Ireland Location: Sussex. I replaced the starter motor and the difference in starter cranking speed was immediately noticeable. Not a sniff of trouble since. iopu2.
